The Dignity Restoration Committee of the Gammangwato Development Committees successfully hosted three parallel workshops last week, aimed at empowering out-of-school youth with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.
The workshops were conducted in different locations across the region, each focused on a distinct area of vocational training:
In Motshegaletau, a layers production workshop was held at the farm of Brian Tholego, a young local farmer. Youth participants from surrounding wards were introduced to poultry farming, with a focus on sustainable egg production as a business model.
In Serowe, the second workshop centered on broiler production, and was hosted at the Ministry of Agriculture offices. Participants were trained on modern broiler farming techniques, with guidance on how to start and manage a small-scale poultry business.
Simultaneously, another workshop took place at Motaagana wa Banana, also in Serowe, where youth were trained in baking and pastry. This program offered hands-on instruction in baking fundamentals, preparing participants to enter the food industry or launch home-based businesses.
The workshops are part of a broader strategy by the Dignity Restoration Committee to combat unemployment and promote self-reliance among the region’s youth. By equipping participants with entrepreneurial skills and practical knowledge, the initiative aims to restore dignity and open new opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
The layers production training in Motshegaletau officially began on 13th May 2025, marking a significant milestone in the committee’s efforts to develop youth capacity across Gammangwato.
